What is epoxy flooring?
We provide various epoxy coating options, all of which are made from a blend of resin and a hardening agent, resulting in a smooth and uniform finish. Epoxy flooring is a coating applied to concrete surfaces, offering a durable, waterproof, slip-resistant, and stain-resistant layer. Some of our flooring options also feature UV resistance and antimicrobial properties. These coatings are ideal for a wide range of applications, including garages, basements, pool decks, industrial facilities, retail spaces, restaurants, schools, modern offices, contemporary living rooms, showrooms, hospitals, and more.
What kind of floor prep work needs to be done?
The first step to achieving a durable bond and a smooth, attractive finish is professional preparation. We will repair any cracks, pits, gouges, and spalling. If necessary, we’ll shot blast or grind the concrete to level the surface and completely remove any previous coatings. The preparation process concludes with a thorough cleaning and vacuuming of the concrete.
What are the benefits of epoxy flooring?
Cost is a major consideration, as epoxy flooring is affordable to install and highly durable. Maintenance is simple—just sweep and mop; no sanding or polishing is necessary. A topcoat only needs to be reapplied every 5 to 7 years, or as recommended by your epoxy flooring professional. Epoxy is moisture and stain-resistant, so even if you spill harsh chemicals like oil, they won’t stain or penetrate the surface. Despite its high-gloss finish, epoxy is slip-resistant. It can be customized with a variety of colors, patterns, and swirls, which can enhance your home's value or help your business stand out.
How long does the install take?
The installation time depends on the type of epoxy you select and the size of the area to be coated. A basic solid color coating typically cures and dries within the same day, but this doesn’t include the preparation time. Prep time can vary significantly based on the condition of your existing concrete. Generally, most projects take 1 to 2 days to prepare, clean, coat, and cure before you can move items back in.
Can I install epoxy flooring myself?
While we appreciate DIY efforts, epoxy flooring is best left to the professionals due to the potential for complications. Proper surface preparation, selecting the right layers, determining the correct thickness, ensuring each layer is evenly applied, and allowing adequate curing time are all critical steps that require professional expertise.
How long does an epoxy floor last?
With proper preparation, professional installation, and regular maintenance, epoxy flooring can have a longer lifespan than most other flooring options. In demanding industrial environments, it can last 8 to 10 years. In office spaces and moderate commercial settings such as garages, basements, schools, hospitals, and showrooms, epoxy flooring can last up to 20 years if resealed approximately every 5 years. In residential areas, with consistent cleaning, maintenance, and resealing, the lifespan can extend from 15 to 30 years.
